Profile Information
Alan is a qualified counsellor, trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and is a member of the professional body COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland). Alan’s approach to therapy is to try not to over-complicate, but be practical, and compassionate. He’ll bring structure and evidence-based techniques from CBT, but also listen closely to what matters most to clients. Every person is unique, so sessions will be shaped around client goals, and at a pace that feels right.
Alan works with clients experiencing all types of anxiety, including generalised anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, and panic, as well as challenges such as low self-esteem and depression. In therapy, the focus will not only be on easing difficult symptoms, but also on strengthening resilience and confidence in day-to-day life.
Alan brings a rich blend of both life and work experience. He has been a husband for over 30 years, a dad for over 25 years, and volunteered in leadership at a community-based charity for more than 20 years. Most of Alan’s working life has been in Social Care, where he has provided support and assistance to adults with varied and often complex life challenges.
In terms of getting started in therapy with Alan, he will try to meet clients’ needs and be as flexible as possible with appointment times. He values face to face therapy but also recognises clients may prefer online therapy and he can facilitate this too. If it would help to have a brief introductory chat (phone or online) to discuss therapy details, this can be arranged by first of all emailing or messaging him to request this. See contact details provided.
